FutureIN in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough

FutureIN is a locally focused programme operating across Cambridgeshire and Peterborough, delivering supported routes into employment within the construction industry.
The programme provides apprenticeship and employment pathways for individuals who are homeless, at risk of homelessness, vulnerable, or facing other significant barriers to work.
By connecting local people with real opportunities on live construction projects, FutureIN supports sustainable careers while helping employers build a resilient regional workforce.

Inequality

  • Cambridge is the UK’s most unequal city, offering significant opportunity for some, while others face exclusion and instability.

    • Housing Pressure

  • Housing stress has increased by 24.9 percent in five years, placing more people at risk of homelessness.

    • Health and wellbeing

  • Poor mental health, unemployment and social isolation contribute to a 12-year life expectancy gap between the most and least deprived communities.

    • The construction challenge

  • The construction industry requires 250,000 plus new workers by 2028 to meet national demand.
  • More than 35 percent of the workforce is over 50, highlighting the need for new entrants.
  • Commercial, scientific and industrial development continues to expand across Greater Cambridge.
  • The region must build 12,100 homes in five years to meet housing demand.
